How To Shatter Limiting Beliefs

by Karim Hajee

"Don't be afraid to try new things; amateurs built the Ark, but professional built the Titanic." -- author unknown

Ever wonder why you get stuck in a rut, try to move forward but feel like you're just walking in mud? You just can't seem to get going. Or have you made a decision to start eating better, but just can't do it? Or maybe you've decided that you're finally going to do something about your finances - but can't seem to get out of debt? Maybe you tell yourself that you're ready to meet that perfect person - but instead you keep meeting the same kind of people?

The reason this happens is really simple - you have a number of beliefs that are limiting you from moving forward. In other words - you've sabotaged any chance of success because of your limited beliefs.

Don't worry - there is a way to shatter those negatives. The first thing you need to do is identify the negative beliefs that are holding you back. For example: let's say you wanted to lose some weight - you keep trying different diets, promising to eat better but you just can't stick with a diet or eat better. What limiting beliefs do you have? Think about going on a diet and write down all the excuses you come up with. You might say something like - it's not easy to lose weight, I love chocolate, etc. Both of these are limiting beliefs. I had someone recently tell me that they want to eat better but they can't. I asked them why not, the response was: "I have to have French fries." Do you see how that is a limiting belief? Who has to have French fries? Last time I checked this wasn't something that you had to have in order to survive - yet this person put it right up there with water. Sure your body needs water - but not French fries.

So what limiting beliefs do you have? If you say you have to have chocolate or French fries - these beliefs go against what you want to accomplish - which is to eat better. You can't say you want to eat better and then try to work towards that with a belief that says: "I have to have chocolate" or "I have to have French fries."

Your subconscious mind has this belief that you have to have chocolate or that you have to have French fries - so whenever you're on a diet and you see chocolate or French fries - you'll want some, you then eat some and the diet is over - thus you can't begin to eat better or live a healthy lifestyle because of your limiting beliefs.

If you want to meet new people - but you keep telling yourself that all men/women are liars and no good - you'll only meet people who are liars and no good. Why? Because your subconscious mind believes that this is what you want - so it just goes out and attracts people that fit the limiting beliefs.

So first you need to write down all the negative or limiting beliefs that you have. At first you may not even be aware of these beliefs - but as you think about them and listen to the excuses you come up with for not achieving your goals you'll uncover your limiting and negative beliefs.

The next step is to replace the negative beliefs, and here things can get a little tricky. You want to replace those limiting beliefs with a new belief system that allows you to accomplish what you want. So if you want to eat healthy - then you need to implement a new belief system that allows you to eat healthy. This has to happen so that when you think about eating healthy your mind and subconscious mind attract situations for you to eat healthy and at the same time you lose the craving for that chocolate bar or French fries. It's a one-two punch that is very effective.

Unfortunately most people never really implement a new belief system that focuses on what they want. Why? Because in the beginning it doesn't seem real - it feels like you're lying to yourself - but you're not lying - you're just getting your subconscious mind to focus on what you want. Now that you're aware of it - sometimes it may seem artificial - but in time your mind will get used to it and then the subconscious picks up the new belief - creating the opportunities for you to follow up. This process takes time but you can speed it up by replacing those limiting beliefs regularly.

If you want to get results you have to stay focused - but often that's easier said than done. Staying focused means remembering why you're changing your habits or why you want to create a new belief system.

If you want to meet the right person then focus on meeting and attracting the right person. Don't dwell on past relationships.

If you want to eat better and lose weight - remember why you want to eat better and lose weight. The more often you remind yourself of your purpose - the sooner your subconscious mind will get the idea and begin moving you in that direction. At the same time your mind will begin to adjust to the new belief system - why? Because you're not focusing on the old belief system. You're not telling yourself that you have to have French fries or chocolate. You're not telling yourself that there are no good men or that it's difficult to make money.

Instead you have your mind constantly focused on your goal and why it's so important to you.

Remember -- you only get one life and one chance. Make the most of it. Stop defeating yourself. Stop limiting yourself.
